About Being and Becoming

Being and Becoming Counselling and Wellness Services is a psychologist-led group practice located in Burnaby, BC at the Burnaby-Vancouver border, offering specialized outpatient eating disorder treatment for adolescents and adults. Our team includes psychologists, registered clinical counsellors, and a registered dietitian, allowing us to provide integrated care that addresses both the psychological and nutritional dimensions of eating disorder recovery within a single practice.

Our approach is trauma-informed, HAES-aligned, and weight-inclusive. We work collaboratively across disciplines to provide cohesive, evidence-based care — and we welcome referrals from physicians, pediatricians, psychiatrists, dietitians, and mental health professionals who are seeking a specialized outpatient eating disorder provider for their patients or clients.

What We Offer

Services are fee-for-service and are not covered by MSP. Fees vary depending on the type of service provided (e.g., counselling, dietitian support, or combined care). Some services may be eligible for coverage through extended health benefits depending on the individual’s insurance plan.

  • Our registered psychologists and registered clinical counsellors provide evidence-based individual therapy for a range of eating disorder presentations. Treatment approaches include:

    • Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E)

    • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

    • Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)

    • Mindfulness-based approaches

    • Somatic and attachment-based approaches

    • Compassion Focused Therapy for Eating Disorders (CFT-E)

  • Our registered dietitian provides individualized nutrition counselling using a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach. Nutrition services can be accessed independently or as part of an integrated treatment plan alongside therapy.

  • Where clinically appropriate, clients can work simultaneously with a therapist and our registered dietitian within the same practice. Our clinicians communicate and collaborate to ensure cohesive, coordinated care.
